One of Monticello's most memorable features is the Great Clock, designed by Jefferson, built by Peter Spruck in 1792, and fully functional today. The clock, with both an interior and exterior face, dictated the schedule of the entire plantation, inside the building and out.

Babe Ruth, one of the best players in baseball history, retired from the Major League on June 2, 1935, after 22 seasons, 10 World Series, and 714 home runs. Ruth was one of the first five players to be inducted into baseball's hall of fame the following year. Ruth was a larger-than-life character whose name came to be synonymous with the sport.
