The Trinity test was the first-ever detonation of a nuclear weapon. It took place on July 16, 1945, in the desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico, as part of the Manhattan Project. The test was conducted by a team of scientists led by J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific director of the Manhattan Project.
