The world's first parking meter was installed in Oklahoma City on July 16, 1935. This pioneering device, known as the "Park-O-Meter No. 1," was placed at the southeast corner of what was then First Street and Robinson Avenue. The invention of the parking meter was driven by the need to manage parking congestion in urban areas, particularly in downtown shopping districts where employees often occupied prime parking spots, leaving no room for customers.
