Ancient Egypt

Body

One of the greatest civilizations in history was located along the world’s longest river. These ancient people were very clever and they built an incredible society filled with amazing technology, a powerful army and even schools. Archaeologists have discovered many clues that tell us about their daily life routines and religious beliefs.  They helped shape modern civilization in many ways. Imagine living in a place where people used toothpaste made from eggshells, kept pet monkeys, and built giant pyramids without modern machines. Ancient Egypt was a land full of amazing inventions, smart ideas, and a deep love for animals and cleanliness. Even though it was thousands of years ago, the Egyptians were way ahead of their time.

The people of Ancient Egypt were brilliant when it came to technological advances. And no, I am not talking about cell phones, TikTok or Nintendo Switches. We all know about the Great Pyramids, temples and government buildings that amaze the world. Did you know they performed surgeries, embalmed mummies, including their pets, and even made wearing makeup popular? Their art, medicine, architecture and even makeup have inspired people for thousands of years.

Egyptians invented a paper called papyrus and wrote books about almost everything. Not like the books we have today, but pieces of papyrus that were rolled into scrolls after the ink dried. There were scrolls about what people wore, games that were played and fictional stories. They had medical books that taught how to treat diseases and how surgeries were performed. One of the most well known scrolls is the Book of the Dead. This scroll is filled with magical spells, prayers, and instructions meant to help someone reach the afterlife. Some scrolls are very long. The longest one that has been found is 132 feet long after it was unrolled. Weird fact: papyrus was also used as toilet paper.

The Egyptians didn’t just work, they knew how to have fun. Evidence has shown that they played games, had huge feasts and festivals, went to parades and even had music and liked to go to concerts. Wearing bright colorful clothes and special makeup, people would sail up and down the Nile river during some of the festivals. These celebrations could last for almost a month.
